Leaf Animals is an adoption website that connects animals in need with the right people. We work as an independent third party between those looking to rehome an animal and those wishing to grow their family.
Leaf Animals functions as an informal educational platform that brings awareness to all issues related to animal welfare.
Leaf Animals is the first animal adoption website in Egypt.
We work to alleviate the pressure on rescue centres, individuals and organisations, as well as bring awareness to the benefits of adopting, fostering and sponsoring.
Amina El Shazly and Tanya El Kashef are passionate about animal welfare and founded Leaf Animals with the intention to make adoption and responsible rehoming more accessible to the community.
Amina completed a Master's degree on Egyptian Baladi dogs in 2019 and soon after launched Leaf Animals with Tanya as her partner. Each founder has years of experience in rescue and adoption, which afforded them a holistic understanding of the process.
Collectively, they have eight animals (four each) and continuously work to better understand animal behaviour and needs.
In order to achieve the desired results, Leaf Animals aims to promote and highlight the benefits of adopting, fostering and sponsoring, as well as the importance of controlling the animal population. We strive to be a trustworthy source of information with regards to animal care and to provide ongoing support to those looking to extend their family.
Leaf Animals’ ultimate goal is to lessen the number of animals looking for homes and aid animal welfare organisations in their work. We hope to achieve this in several ways.
1. Animals that are up for adoption/fostering may be submitted to our website along with a detailed profile. The adoption/fostering process will then be closely monitored to ensure success.
2. People looking for an animal to adopt/foster can search our website for a companion, or they can ask us for recommendations based on their lifestyle. Potential caregivers are required to fill out an application for assessment. Leaf Animals abides by the Five Freedoms of animal welfare and we conduct our screenings of applications accordingly.
3. Leaf Animals provides a platform to sponsor animal rescue centres and welfare programs across the country.
As we continue to learn about animal behaviour, we envision a reality where animals' instinctual needs are respected and their lives are valued beyond serving a human purpose.
We seek a cultural shift and a change in mindset; we'd like to see animal welfare become a priority and this includes animals in homes and those that are free roaming and/or wild.
At the heart of our vision is a belief in force free, positivity motivated practices and abiding by research driven methods and standards.
