Joy was found in the streets with a broken leg as a result of car accident. He was rescued and taken to the vet clinic for diagnoses and x-rays which showed a broken and dislocated femur.

The fracture could be repaired by internal fixation using I/M pins however the prognosis for the surgery was not good because of the fracture sight which was located at the proximal part near the hip joint, the problem in such cases is the inability to take the necessary measures to prevent the occurrence of what so called “quadriceps contracture” which is the invasion of fibrous tissues to the quadriceps muscle making it non-functioning, and the other option was to go for amputation. We decided to give him a chance and go for the fixation surgery and try our best to save his leg, three pins were used, one large pin (to be removed later in a following surgery after primary healing occurs) and two small pins that were going to stay in the femur bone.

Unfortunately the quadriceps contracture occurred and at that point there was no other option except the amputation as the damage affected both the knee and Achilles joints.

He is now recovered perfectly after the amputation surgery, but he is still happy and playful with three legs.

We can prepare him for traveling if a family abroad is interested.
Also since he’s in a dog hotel/ kennel he doesn’t have a chance to be potty trained but he’s very smart and when we had the chance to foster him in a home he was a fast learner.
